But camera specs don’t mean anything unless the pictures are good. It’s a 12.3 megapixel camera, with a F/2.o aperture, a 1.55 micron pixel size, and a Sony sensor (You didn’t need to process all of that). I used this camera the past weekend with low expectations, given the price of the phone and the past history of Nexus cameras (the reviews I read for the Nexus 4, 5, and 6’s camera all range from “Ok?” to “It doesn’t exist”). I’m not really a case guy, but until I feel confident about holding a phone this big, the case stays on.Ĭamera: This is my first Nexus phone so I don’t have an experience with past Nexus cameras. But just so you know, I do have a case on it. All of this makes for a phone that can keep up with the iPhones and Galaxys of today when it comes to specs and design. And the scanner is very fast and accurate. But it’s on a spot that your index finger can easily get into without much effort. And lastly, on the back there is a fingerprint scanner. And it brings the inky blacks, vivid colors, and the sharpness that you usually see with Galaxys (thought it could be a big more bright in daylight). And the screen is an OLED Quad HD display with 518 pixels per inch. Now, every phone feels like a phone for ants (Zoolander reference). The big screen makes it much better when it comes to reading, watching YouTube videos, or playing a game. It’s weird at first, but then you quickly get use to it. At 5.7″, it’s the exact definition of a phablet, even though it’s the exact same size and thickness as the iPhone 6S Plus, even with the Nexus’s slightly bigger screen and bigger battery which is impressive. There is a camera bulge, but it doesn’t make the phone wobble, and it’s actually useful to tell which way is up. It’s made almost entirely out of glass and aluminum, with the most subtle hints of plastic for the antennas to go through. The 6P is a really solid piece of hardware. Hardware: Lets get this out of the way first. And I really wanted to love this phone so that I don’t end up switching back to Apple. Android phones have a bad reputation when it comes to software updates and carrier bloatware, and when choosing a Nexus, you receive no bloatware and timely updates. I already reviewed the Surface Pro 4 and for the past two days I was getting to know the Nexus 6P.īut why did I choose the Nexus 6P instead of a Galaxy S7 Edge? Well, one can make a point to the Edge’s waterproofing and eye catching design, but the reason why was software. In case you didn’t hear, I divorced Apple due to personally finding an increasing lack of quality in there hardware and software. But what else to expect? It’s after all a phablet (a cross between a smartphone and a tablet. That was my first impression after opening the box last Saturday. So my experience with battery life might be different than others. Disclaimer: I’ve been running the Android N Public Beta on my 6P.
